Things to do in Bali

Bali is far more than beaches. Inland, emerald rice terraces tumble down hillsides, waterfalls hide in the jungle and Hindu temples host daily offerings and colourful ceremonies. Ubud is the island's cultural heart, while the coast offers surfing, sunsets and laid-back beach clubs. Balinese hospitality is famously warm.

The dry season, roughly April to October, is the best time to visit, with sunnier days and lower humidity. July, August and the Christmas period are the busiest. The wet season brings short, heavy downpours, lush scenery and fewer crowds. Hire a driver for day trips inland, as traffic can make distances feel longer than they look.
